Actresses Always Lie
by El Pollo Campero, Comidas Para Llevar (ES)
Two Spanish women have really tried to earn a living as actresses. They've taken the roles, lived the part, but now it's time to come clean. This is a charming, political and physical performance that walks us through the dreams and realities of two friends who've never stopped performing.
Actresses Always Lie is a performance exploration, using the stereotype and universe of 'the actress' as a springboard to talk about a wide range of subjects, from gender to trade and precariousness.
From all the auditions, casting sessions and workshops these performers have undertaken is built an engaging and accessible piece of contemporary theatre, reflecting on the attempt to survive, and even earn a living, as actresses in the Spain of today. Mixing cabaret, dance, theatre and performance, This is a show that blurs the lines between autobiography and fiction, bringing us up close and personal with two people caught in the act of playing a role.
